Leading Hotels 1928 Promotion Farce

Some of you may not be aware, but in celebration of their 80th birthday, the Leading Hotels of the World created a great special offer to celebrate it - rooms for $19.28 per night, on-sale for just 80 minutes - LHW/1928.

Trouble is they used technology from 1928 to manage demand.  At 14:00 CET on 01 October the rooms went on sale but no-one could actually log in due to such high demand.  Despite knowing how many registrations they had, somehow they didn’t manage to manage demand.

This was a real shame, given the great idea and sensational offer.

The Metropolitan Hotel, London

Which hotel more appropriate to begin my blog with than the one that inspired me in the first place - The Metropolitan Hotel.  A design classic and one of the longest serving members of Design Hotels, it still remains one of the finest hotels of it’s genre.

I stayed there last week for the first time in six years, and while the decor may have changed - purple carpets from beige in the rooms, The Met Bar from dark to light and the lobby completely re-engineered - the atmosphere and style has remained intact.  An instant hotel legend from the day it’s doors opened - assisted no doubt by The Met Bar and Nobu, both of which are still hot-spots of the London scene - the friendliness of the staff, comfort of the beds, atmosphere of the bar and its sheer coolness make this a hotel worth coming back too.
