Sleep? How can I with all that glowing?

This has to be the worst promo for a design hotel ever.  The SIDE Hotel in Hamburg commissioned an agency to come up with this idea.  Check out the movie then read on.

Ok, so I am having trouble sleeping.  The hotels solution is to paint a phosphorus message on the wall.  Genius…so now I can’t sleep because of a bright, glowing message on my wall!

The latest newsletter from Design Hotels™ dropped into my inbox today with a rather special treat.  For those looking to escape the festive season stress, or just to do something other than sit around stuffing your face with turkey and mince pies, then maybe the Design Hotels Escape Christmas promotion is for you.

There are 50 hotels offering a 10% reduction off the standard rate, breakfast, a welcome drink and a special “Un-Christmas Gift” from the hotel.

The Metropolitan Hotel, London

Which hotel more appropriate to begin my blog with than the one that inspired me in the first place - The Metropolitan Hotel.  A design classic and one of the longest serving members of Design Hotels, it still remains one of the finest hotels of it’s genre.

I stayed there last week for the first time in six years, and while the decor may have changed - purple carpets from beige in the rooms, The Met Bar from dark to light and the lobby completely re-engineered - the atmosphere and style has remained intact.  An instant hotel legend from the day it’s doors opened - assisted no doubt by The Met Bar and Nobu, both of which are still hot-spots of the London scene - the friendliness of the staff, comfort of the beds, atmosphere of the bar and its sheer coolness make this a hotel worth coming back too.
